    NEWTON BLOSSOMVILLE CE SCHOOL

As the days grow brighter and the first signs of spring begin to colour our village, the children at Newton Blossomville CE School have been embracing the seasonal changes with real joy. After the darker winter months, it has been wonderful to see pupils back outside, exploring the beautiful surroundings of Newton Blossomville and appreciating the sunshine returning.

    World Book Day

This year’s World Book Day was a celebration of imagination, creativity, and the sheer pleasure of reading. Our chosen whole school text was The Bridges by Tom Percival, a thoughtful story about connection, understanding, and the ways books can build bridges between ourselves and others and lead to wonderful experiences. The children explored its themes deeply, helped in no small part by the fact that our village is home to its own beautiful bridges across the Great Ouse. These offered the perfect spark for discussion and inspiration.

In the spirit of the Government’s National Year of Reading, we have been encouraging children to read for pleasure, encouraging them to choose books that excite them, comfort them, or simply make them laugh. To celebrate this, pupils brought in their favourite books from home, and together we created imaginative “bridges” to each story. This led to a whole host of wonderful activities such as crafting a life sized scarecrow inspired by The Scarecrow’s Wedding by Julia Donaldson, imagining what we might throw into a tree, just like in Oliver Jeffers’ Stuck and writing letters to our favourite coloured crayons after reading The Day the Crayons Quit

The school was buzzing with creativity, and it was a joy to see children so immersed in the stories they love.

    The Great Fire of London

Last half term, our history learning centred on the Great Fire of London. We ended the unit with a full immersive day set in 1666. The children arrived dressed as farriers, chandlers, bakers, and other tradespeople of the time, ready to step into the sights and sounds of historic London. Throughout the day, pupils made candles and soap baked bread wrote diary entries using quills, just like Samuel Pepys and retold the events of the fire through drama, with some very promising young actors shining! It was a memorable experience that brought history to life in the most vivid way.

    London Landmarks and Learning Adventures

Our learning this term continues with the theme of London, focusing on both its physical and human features. Next week, we will be travelling by train to visit St Paul’s Cathedral, where the children will explore its architecture and history. We will also revisit key moments from the Great Fire of London during our trip, helping pupils deepen and embed their understanding.

    Celebrations and Community Events

We are looking forward to welcoming families to our Mother’s Day Breakfast on Friday 13th March, a chance to celebrate the wonderful mums and motherfigures in our school community.

Later in the term, we hope to hold our Outdoor Easter Service (weather permitting). The children will share songs, poems, and artwork, and we will finish with a joyful Easter egg hunt—a lovely way to end what is always a short but very busy half term.

    A Special Place to Learn

Newton Blossomville School is a nurturing and magical place to learn. Our small school environment allows us to truly know every child as an individual. Low pupil numbers mean children benefit from personalised support, strong relationships, and rich opportunities that help them thrive both academically and emotionally. Our children grow in confidence, curiosity, and independence, supported by a caring community where everyone is valued. We are currently offering private tours of our school and would be delighted to welcome prospective families. If you would like to arrange a visit or find out more, please contact the school office.

We look forward to an exciting and enriching term ahead and thank our parish and wider community for their continued support.

    NEWTON BLOSSOMVILLE CE SCHOOL

As we begin a brand new year, we would like to take a moment to reflect on a truly joyful and memorable end to last term at Newton Blossomville School. Christmas may now be behind us, but the wonderful experiences and special moments shared by our children continue to warm our hearts.

Before Christmas, lots of fun was had across the school. One of the highlights was an exciting trip to The Snozone in Milton Keynes, where our children experienced the thrill of tobogganing on real snow. There were plenty of smiles, laughter, and rosy cheeks as the children embraced this unique opportunity. It was definitely an experience that will be remembered for a long time to come. We also enjoyed visiting The Stables Theatre, joining all the schools from the Village Schools Federation to watch Stick Man. It was a wonderful chance to come together as a wider community and share the magic of live theatre. On our final day of term, excitement reached new heights when Father Christmas himself paid us a visit, delighting the children and spreading plenty of festive cheer.

A huge thank you must go to the Friends of Newton Blossomville School for organising our Christmas light switch-on event, and to everyone who came along to support us. Despite the very wet weather, it was a fun-filled evening and an incredible success. We are thrilled to share that an astonishing £3,019.00 was raised. This generous amount will be used to support school trips and other educational enhancements, making a real and lasting difference to the children’s learning experiences. We were also immensely proud of our children during their Nativity performance, “The Little Nativity with a Big Heart.” Every child shone, showing confidence, kindness, and teamwork, and reminding us all what the season is truly about.

Looking Ahead to the New Term

As we move into this half term, our topic has changed to The Great Fire of London. The children have already begun learning fascinating facts and reading related texts in English, and in History we are exploring the event in greater depth. In Design and Technology, we are learning about Tudor houses, linking beautifully with our historical studies. We are especially looking forward to our Great Fire of London theme day, where the children will step back in time to 1666, discovering what life was like and exploring the jobs people may have been doing during that period. Next half term we will be boarding a train and going to London to visit Pudding Lane and really bringing our learning to life!

This half term also includes our annual visit to Kingston Gym, which we will attend on two consecutive Mondays alongside friends from our other Village Schools Federation schools. The children will have the opportunity to explore a wide range of gym equipment and practise skills they have been developing in their PE lessons, building confidence, coordination, and resilience.

  • Marvellous Milton Keynes Museum

Mon 13 Oct 2025 Danielle Kipling

On Monday, we met with our friends and colleagues from Stoke Goldington and Sherington School for an exciting joint trip to the Milton Keynes Museum. As always, it did not disappoint! We enjoyed a day full of history, discovery, and fun.

The children really enjoyed stepping back in time to experience life in the Victorian schoolroom, although they all agreed that Newton Blossomville School was a much better option! They took part in activities that showed just how different school life was in the past, from the strict rules to old-fashioned writing tools.  It was a memorable day that sparked curiosity and plenty of great conversations back at school. We celebrated Harvest in St Nicholas Church on Friday. The church was full of children, parents, teachers and members of the community. Harvest crafts, singing and the smell and taste of harvest fruit crumbles and custard! We gave thanks for the harvest but also for the wonderful community we are part of.

    NEWTON BLOSSOMVILLE CE SCHOOL

    Newton Blossomville CE School News

The start of a new school year always brings excitement, and our children have returned full of stories from their summer adventures. It has been wonderful to hear their tales of fun and laughter and to welcome everyone back into our small, nurturing school family. Newton Blossomville School is truly a place filled with warmth, smiles and a commitment to putting each child first.

At Newton Blossomville, we believe in building our curriculum around the needs and interests of the children. This half term our topic is “Me and Where I Live”. The children are becoming historians, discovering the fascinating history of Newton Blossomville. They are already busy asking questions, finding out interesting facts, and imagining what life would have been like in the village without electricity! To support their learning, we will be visiting Milton Keynes Museum with our friends from Stoke Goldington and Sherington Schools. This is a wonderful opportunity to share experiences and broaden horizons together.

We are also looking ahead to our Harvest Festival on Friday 10th October at 9.15am in St Nicholas Church. Everyone is welcome to celebrate with us and stay for a cup of tea and some tasty autumn treats!  The children are practising songs and preparing poems to share at the service, and we will once again be collecting donations for the Milton Keynes Food Bank, helping to support local families in need.

At Newton Blossomville, we celebrate each child’s individuality and achievements. We encourage independence and resilience, value the importance of play, and ensure children have plenty of opportunities to be active, curious and creative. It is a joy to see them grow not only in knowledge, but also in confidence and character.

If you’re looking for a nurturing environment where your child can thrive, we invite you to visit our school. We have open days on Thursday 16th October from 1.30pm – 3pm and also on Saturday 15th November from 10.00am to 12pm.
